Reiki is a very beneficial supplement for dog health and the care of other large animals. If you have dogs, horses or other live stock, work with such animals, or volunteer at a shelter, Reiki is a wonderful healing tool and gift for your animal friends. The larger the animal, the more positions you need to do in order to share a healthy dose of energy. I recommend that you refer to an Anatomy Chart of animals that you are working on, so that you will know where the most important organs are and can treat them most efficiently. The organ arrangements of dogs and cats are different from those of human bodies.
Animals, especially wild ones and those that roam freely out-of-doors, can become rabid. If you get bitten by a rabid animal, go to a medical doctor as soon as possible. If animals are considered poisonous, wild, or dangerous, it is best to treat them with distant healing: this technique is learned in Reiki II. Never force an animal to sit still while you do Reiki animal healing on them. They know how much energy they need and can freely choose to stop accepting the Reiki. Every animal is unique, and only by working with them, not on them, will you come to appreciate the freedom (not domination) of animals. This is the true gift of Reiki: "unconditional love".
If your pet friend will not permit a treatment, but is not acting normal, take it to the veterinarian. Ask to be in the room with the doctor. Learn from them: ask questions, and give support to your pet. They will always remember the attention and loving care they received from you; when they need care in the future, they will come to you more readily. Remember, Reiki is a higher frequency vibration. It may take time before your animal becomes accustomed to the energy. But once they do and they feel comfortable with you, they will seek it out whenever they become imbalanced.
